What you’ll need: 1x Cat 1xLove for cats

Go an entire week without picking up, talking to, or showing any type of affection for your cat. How does this affect you? How does this affect your cat? If you try, lemme know how it goes.

Bonus Challenge!: Don’t talk about your cat, either.

  • Question: I absolutely love your perler bead art. I'm interested in doing some similar work. Do you have any advice or tips for a beginner? - rely-on-yourself
  • Answer:

Thanks! This is my second year of Perler Beading, and I have more than a few tips on beginning! The first mistake I made is level of ironing. Smaller projects don’t need as much heat as bigger ones. Ironing too much will make the beads look burnt and unappealing, and it’ll also warp the peg boards pretty quick. The Megaman I did a couple days ago would probably be the best example of a perfectly ironed project. It’s important to have a lot of colours, it might be a little pricey (200ish to cover beginning material costs) but if you end up making compromises and using colours that don’t match or blend well shading wise it’ll look like crap. A prime example is the Calvin and Hobbes one I did. If you look on deviant art for “Calvin and Hobbes bead” you’ll see two others done by people who half assed it and without tooting my own horn, they look like crap. Having a good number of pegboards is important too. 3x3 is a good size to do a range of sized projects. The reason it’s important is because say you wanted to do something that was 29 beads by 29 beads (the size of 1 pegboard) if you did it on just one peg board the board would warp and pretty much be useless after a couple of ironings, whereas with spreading it out over multiple connected boards it’ll be good for months. I know this seems fairly long, it just goes to show how many mistakes I made in the beginning. Hesitation is your worst enemy when dealing with projects that are larger than single pegboard. If you don’t use enough pressure or if you put the iron down and take it up too quickly the project will probably rise with the ironing paper and come off the board. Nice slow even pressure will make for a fine sprite. As for laying the beads, you can really do it anyway you want, I find it quicker and easier to do it by colour. First do all the black, then colour it in as you see fit. So that’s my rant, if you have any questions or didn’t quite understand what I meant by something feel free to msg me, I’ll try and keep it shorter than this. Just remember not to give up! It takes time and practice, and sometimes things don’t go as planned. That Protoman I did came out terribly in the beginning. His arm seperated because a bead turned sideways, so I had to cut it off with a knife and then build a new one and iron the two of them together. But it worked out good in the end.
